The Assessment Process

Clear and Straightforward

We want the assessment process to feel clear and straightforward from the very beginning. Our team will guide you through each stage and help you understand what to expect.

1

Start with a Free Consultation

Your journey begins with a free 30-minute consultation with one of our therapists. This gives us an opportunity to listen to your concerns, understand your child or young person’s needs and discuss whether an Occupational Therapy assessment would be appropriate.

We’ll also help you identify which type of assessment is most suited to the questions you would like answered.

2

Information Gathering

If you decide to proceed, we will send you a referral pack containing the relevant service information, quotation, consent forms and Occupational Therapy history.

Gathering information about your child’s development, strengths, everyday experiences and current difficulties helps us begin to build a picture before the assessment takes place.

Once the required information, consent and initial payment have been received, our team will arrange the assessment.

3

Assessment

Your Occupational Therapist will complete an individualised, comprehensive assessment based on your child’s needs.

Depending on the assessment required, this may include standardised assessments, questionnaires, clinical observations, functional activities, specialist sensory assessment, school or education-setting observations and liaison with other professionals.

We don’t simply look at what a child finds difficult. We explore why it may be difficult and how this is affecting their participation in everyday life.

4

Report & Recommendations

Following the assessment, you will receive a comprehensive Occupational Therapy report bringing together the findings and explaining what they mean for your child or young person.

Recommendations are practical, individualised and focused on everyday life. They may include environmental adaptations, sensory and regulation strategies, support for independence, school-based recommendations, equipment or activity adaptations, Occupational Therapy intervention or further specialist assessment, where appropriate.

Our aim is for you to leave the assessment process with greater understanding of your child, clear recommendations and practical next steps to support their participation, independence and wellbeing.
