Integrated Sensory & Cognitive (ISC-OT) Intervention
Sensory regulation, body awareness, cognitive strategies and Occupational Therapy
Our Integrated Sensory & Cognitive (ISC-OT) intervention brings together sensory regulation, body awareness, cognitive strategies and Occupational Therapy to support neurodivergent children and young people experiencing difficulties such as anxiety, emotional regulation, avoidance and participation in everyday life.
Cognitive approaches alone can be difficult to access when a young person’s nervous system is overwhelmed or dysregulated; equally, sensory strategies alone may not address the thoughts, patterns and experiences contributing to ongoing anxiety or avoidance.
ISC-OT bridges this gap by helping the young person understand the relationship between their body, sensory system, thoughts, emotions and actions, while developing practical strategies that transfer into everyday situations.
Following assessment and collaborative goal setting, intervention is delivered as an individualised programme of 6, 10 or 14 one-hour sessions, depending on the young person’s needs. Sessions are adapted around the individual and may incorporate sensory and body-based regulation, interoception, emotional awareness, cognitive strategies, graded exploration of meaningful activities, problem-solving and functional skill development.
Progress is reviewed throughout, with strategies and recommendations developed collaboratively with the young person and, where appropriate, their family and education setting to support meaningful change beyond the therapy session.
