Training
Building understanding. Developing confidence. Creating environments where children and young people can thrive.
At Connect Specialist Therapy, we provide specialist, bespoke training for parents, carers, schools, colleges, higher education settings, professionals, businesses and other organisations.
Our training is designed to go beyond simply providing information. We want delegates to leave with a greater understanding of why a child or young person may experience the world differently, what their behaviour and responses may be communicating, and what we can practically do to support them.
Training is delivered by experienced clinicians and draws upon our knowledge of Occupational Therapy, neurodiversity, sensory processing, Sensory Integration, regulation, participation and the impact of the environment on everyday functioning.
Our approach is neuroaffirming, strengths-based and practical. Rather than focusing on changing a child or young person to fit an environment, we help the adults around them consider:
What is the child or young person experiencing? What might be making participation difficult? What can we change, adapt or understand differently to help?
Who Is Our Training For?
Training can be developed for a wide range of audiences, including:
- Parents and carers
- Early years settings
- Primary and secondary schools
- Specialist schools and alternative provisions
- Colleges and further education
- Universities and higher education providers
- SEND teams and Local Authorities
- Occupational Therapists and other healthcare professionals
- Speech and Language Therapists
- Psychologists and psychotherapists
- Social care professionals
- Charities and community organisations
- Businesses and employers
- Organisations supporting neurodivergent children, young people and adults
We recognise that the needs of a parent group will be very different from those of a school staff team, university, clinical service or workplace. Our training is therefore adapted to the people attending, the setting and the outcomes the organisation wants to achieve.
Bespoke Training Packages
There is no single approach that works for every child, young person, family or organisation.
Before delivering training, we can discuss your current needs, the people attending, existing knowledge and the challenges you would particularly like the session to address.
Training can range from an introductory awareness session or parent workshop through to more detailed half-day, full-day or multi-session packages.
Where appropriate, training can also incorporate case discussions, practical activities, environmental considerations and examples relevant to your own setting, helping delegates translate theory into everyday practice.
Topics can be delivered individually or combined to create a bespoke package, including:
Neurodiversity • Sensory Processing • Regulation • Interoception • Supporting Autistic Children and Young People • ADHD • Understanding Behaviour as Communication • Co-Regulation • Trauma-Informed Practice • Inclusive Environments • School Participation • Supporting Transitions • Sensory-Friendly Environments • Self-Advocacy • Participation and Independence
